The ‘Archives Fine Books’ bookstore on Charlotte Street in Brisbane City was established 35 years ago and is now one of Australia’s largest second hand bookstores. The actual building itself is was constructed in the early 1920’s. Walking into this retro bookstore, there is a distinct smell of nostalgia and old printers paper. The floors are creaky, it is full of dark corners and there is literally wall to wall books from floor to ceiling. The old wood panels on each bookshelf, stepladders and a very quiet reading room at the back creates an energy of yesteryear. There are books dated from the 1800’s and collectible pieces in glass cabinets. There is good old fashion service and the whole experience is just like walking into a time capsule. An understated piece of Brisbane’s history that should be enjoyed by more locals. More information on their official website http://www.archivesfinebooks.com.au
